3 simple steps to wear sheer this Summer

by - July 06, 2017

I had the pleasure to join one of my best friends for her special bachelorette a few days ago and her dreamy wedding just yesterday! I will share with you my outfit on her wedding day on a separate post so stay tuned! We had to classic high-tea, spa and dinner combo. Girly date calls for a girly outfit! I made my statement that day with a sheer top.

Sheer, like tulle, mesh or lace, is very unique. Because it is see-through, it shows off your silhouette and skin, yet giving you a little security that you are still "covered". The material creates a feminine, sexy, romantic feel to the outfit. Let me share with you 3 simple steps how I'd wear this trend for the season:

1. Decide on how much skin you want to show
Choose the amount of skin you are comfortable in showing when purchasing your sheer piece.

Sheer full piece appears to be popping out everywhere in today's fashion, from tops to skirts to dresses. Pick one with sheer accents, patches or panels if you feel intimidated with the full transparency. For example, the top I wore in today's post the sheer lies only on the shoulders and sleeves. It is long sleeved so I rolled it up for a more springy/summery look. It is elegant and classy, yet not lacking the sexy wild side.

2. Go Subtle or Bold
With full sheer tops, for those who are more daring, simply wear a bralette or bandeau underneath! It is a very sexy, chic way to show off some skin without being over the top. For a statement bold look, pair something contrasting with your sheer and let it show through. A bright colored bralette with a black sheer top would be a good example. Since we are in Summer, why not wear your colorful bathing suit underneath? Bring on your creative side! Having a loose sheer over a fitted dress would be a cute summer combo too!

A full sheer dress, on the other hand, is a surprisingly versatile layering piece. An under dress, solid color or printed, beneath it would make it a classic dress. Try it with a tank or bralette paired with skinny jeans for a fun, boho vibe. Sheer skirts are pretty similar idea as dresses. Try a graphic crop top and skinny jeans or leggings underneath for a punk, edgy look.

If you are more conservative, try a tank top or cropped top instead for more coverage. In fact, if you want to slowly dip into the crop top trend, a sheer piece over top would keep you from fully bell Show! Throw on a thin cardigan or blazer for a more sophisticated look! For a tamed subtle effect, match your sheer with an under piece of the same color. They blend together to make it more unified.

Opt for prints on your sheer. Prints and patterns make sheer harder to see through; the busier it is, the more so. Because of that exact reason, you don't have to worry too much of what to wear beneath.

Not too fond of sheer on top? Try it as an under layer instead! Draw attention with sheer under a structured skirt with the peek-a-boo effect. Make sure whatever on top is thick enough to hide the unpleasant bulges and bumps!

3. Have fun with the accessories
Accessories on my fashion dictionary doesn't necessarily mean jewelries.

Embroidery and embellishments creates visual distractions, making the illusion of more coverage. Try them out if you feel a bit over-exposed with plain sheer! The embroidery on my sheer top serves that purpose well. The large size and pop of color also makes it a statement for my outfit. Embroidery pop against sheer. It is a fun, chic and flirty way to emphasize the detail and show off your girly side.

As for jewelries, instead of delicate ones, opt for something more chunky to add character to your outfit! Unless if your sheer piece is already busy with embellishments or prints, then you go for the more dainty ones to balance it out.
