Her Sassy Closet

Fall is the perfect season for layering, and cardigan is one of my favorite piece for that!

When first I saw this ballerina-style wrapped cardigan, it was instant love. Unlike the traditional baggy cardigans, the wrapped ballerina-style cardigans cinch the waist with straps. This gives me shape and allows me to show off my silhouette, making the outfit appear more feminine.

Styling cardigans is super easy they essentially look good with anything, dressed up or down. I paired mine with a universally flattering jersey A-line dress for comfort. The gingham print keeps it clean and classy. Cardigans that end at the waist like mine easily look great with fitted or skinny jeans, even poofy tu-tu skirts with some volume.

I kept my look casual with a comfy flats and camera-like cross body bag. Together, they add some fun to my outfit and making it flirty, playful and youthful.

Do you like my look? How do you style your cardigan? Let me know in the comments below! Till next time!

Halloween is just around the corner and now photos of friends visiting pumpkin patches are popping up everywhere on my Facebook feed. So today, I decided to bring in something different - a sunflower field! Isn't it beautiful? This is located at the Aldor Acres Family Farm in Langley, BC. It was another family day for me. This farm is, as the name suggests, super family friendly. There are petting zoo with lots of farm animals. Even piglets that were born just the day before! Our little highlight of the day was a wagon hayride up the hills to their pumpkin patch. Our first and will definitely not be our last! I didn't get a chance to take too many photos at the pumpkin patch because it was quite wet and muddy as it rained the day before. The sunflowers and grown everywhere around the farm. It wasn't hard to find a good spot for the insta-photos! Guess what goes well with giant yellow flowers in the fall? Polka dots!

Polka dots are one of the most classic patterns and they made a red hot hit during the summer! As Autumn comes around, why not pull the essence into the cooler weather? So how do you wear polka dots without looking childish? Here are my thoughts on how it's done:

1. The fit
Make sure your polka dots piece is in a modern cut, such as a fitted blouse and an A-line dress. A fitted silhouette shows off your feminine body and gives it a more mature, sophisticated look. If your piece is loose, cinch your waist and throw in a color pop at the same time. Try a bright red thin belt on monochromic polka dots. It will give you that fitted look you are going for and because of the color, it also draws attention to the small of your waist. Double thumbs up!

2. Graphic blocking
Instead of going all out with one full polka dot piece, opt for something smaller making the pattern an essence of your outfit rather than the main focal point. A polka dot scarf around your neck is a good choice to ease into the trend. A large polka dot triangle scarf around the waist toughens up your outfit and adds the traces of the rock star vibe.

3. The extremes
The literal go with small dots or go big with giant dots. I find anything in between appear too busy and not so flattering on many body types. Small dots create a clean, sharp look, whereas giant dots create a statement for your outfit.

How are you styling your polka dots? Let me know in the comments below! Till next time!

Blazers traditionally fall under the work clothing category. As fashion evolves, blazers are now made in more casual fabrics and chic cuts for more versatile use. Here's my take on wearing the blazer for both work and play:

Work:
The no-brainer: wear it as is! Opt for one with shiny metallic details such as buttons like mine for a more upbeat, youthful look. I also went with blue versus the traditional black - blue is the new black for a slimming effect! Pair it with contrasting color bottoms to change things up a bit. For example, a dark blue blazer with white fitted pants or vice versa. Finish your look with comfy kitten heels or pumps and chunky necklace as a statement!

Play:
Pair your blazer with a graphic tee and denim bottom for a casual weekend look. Try different textures and fabric as you see fit! I went with a pleated velvet midi for my outfit. I balanced the heavy velvet with a light pleated duster under the blazer. It created a very cool special effect that made the flowy part of the duster look like part of the blazer. I think it complimented the skirt very well. Sneakers and flats also dress down blazers giving them a more relaxed vibe. I made my shoes as a statement with shiny material and platform bottom. If your blazer is loose fitting, try cinching your waist with a belt on top of your blazer to shape your silhouette  and show off your feminine sexy side.

A couple weeks ago, I received the invitation of my dear friend Rina Doria to attend the Vancouver Fashion Week. It was my first time ever at the event and I was so excited! The outfit in this post was the one I wore that day!

For the span of time I was there, I saw four collections from different designers. They were all very interesting showcases. The collection by Minori Isomichi is one of my favorite in the show.

It caught my eyes with the mixture of playful ruffles and metallic fabrics in a modern fusion design. It looked like there was incorporation of a hint of the traditional Victorian, Thailand and Japanese clothing. Is it just me who's seeing this? I thought that was pretty cool pulling different cultures together in the same collection and unified with the use of ruffles and shiny fabrics.

I wish I could have seen more of the event! It was unfortunate I got the chance to go for only one day out of the week. There's always next time! Thank you Rina for the invite nonetheless xoxo.

It's been a while since my last post and I'm finally getting back to blogging. I was away to the States visiting Yellowstone National Park, Mount Rushmore and Devil Tower. They were so fabulous and interesting to see! The photos taken in today's post wasn't planned at all. It's at a rest area on the highway that I came across randomly on my trip! The background was too cute to dismiss. I love windmills because they remind me of the beauty and power of the wind and freedom. I thought it was perfect for fall photos. Can't believe we are in mid-fall already!

Since military style utility jacket came into style, designers have added many different accent details to the simple piece to make them eye-catchers. One of the most popular ones is the faux leather sleeves. These new designs are very attractive, but I still love the original simplicity. I find the neutral color and cut super easy to style.

I layered today under my utility jacket a checkered tee with a denim button-up. I wore those two as well for my Disney World trip back in June (see here for the post!). Putting on an extra layer worked perfectly for the cooler open area of Wyoming and Idaho. A scallop hem skirt added the feminine touch to the outfit balancing out the tough military look of the utility jacket.

Here are my take on styling wearing utility jackets:
1. Masculine vs. Feminine
Utility jacket is derived from military uniform, which is quite a masculine piece. If you are following that route, add to the vibe with ripped tight jeans and ankle boots. Stripped or graphic tee works very well to complete the outfit. For a more feminine look, wear the jacket with skirts. Mini skirt gives it a playful flirty vibe, whereas long flowy skirts a more mature sexy look.

2. The perfect mute
A utility jacket is very laid-back. Sounds funny but try topping your evening outfit with a utility jacket for a clever cover up for your day activities! You will find it tones down your outfit a lot to a more relaxed look.

3. Belt it
Utility jacket can be baggy depending on the style you get. Put a belt around your waist on top of the jacket for a more fitted silhouette.

I'd love to hear what you think! How do you style your utility jacket? Let me know in the comments below. Till next time!
