Previously on Her Sassy Closet, we took velvet into the lounge. This time, Part 2 of the velvet series, we are going to take a look at how we can style the same velvet dress to go on the streets!

My concept is pretty simple: just throw on a long vest or duster jacket with a pair of chunky-heeled sock boots and you are good to go!

I chose a heavier material for the vest - thick suede, for a more tough cowgirl look. The length of the vest made it more sophisticated instead of sporty. Sock boots maximize comfort for all day wear.

This is a great outfit for a nice weekend brunch. To dress it up more, don a couple over-sized bangles would be more than enough. The smooth fabric itself is already a wow factor. Having too many items from the jewel department would take away its glam.

This is just one of many ways to wear velvet on a day out. When wearing velvet, keep in mind the following:

Do's for the look of smart and sophistication
1. Rich colors are best:
Rich jewel hues bring out the best and elegance of the fabric. Darker shades create the illusion of slimmer silhouettes. Although lighter colored velvet can be chic, it can be tricky to carry. This leads to my next point.

2. Not too tight:
Be careful and watch for how and where the fabric hugs your body. Because velvet is quite soft and smooth, it tends to fall into the shapes and curves of the body. Too tight of a garment would show off all your flaws. This is especially true for crushed velvet - in such a case, darker colors are your best bet. If you really like the bodycon dress look, try one with draped velvet to distract the eyes from the not-so-attractive parts of your body.

3. Let it be the accessories:
Velvet doesn't have to be worn as clothes. Add a touch of elegance to your outfit with a simple velvet choker or a small velvet boxy handbag.

Footwear is another great way to carry velvet. We've seen them a lot on fashion blogs and trendsetters, wearing velvet on sneakers, heels, boots, you name it! Velvet adds femininity to the outfit easily with small coverage.

Don'ts because you would look cheap and trashy
1. Don't over do it:
Keep your velvet garments to one. Too many pieces of velvet to make up an outfit will make you look like you are wearing curtains.

Same goes with velvet embellishments. Keep it simple as well for the exact same reason.

How do you style your velvet? Let me know in the comments below. That's the end of the velvet series. Till next time!

Happy New Year everybody! I've been MIA again for a bit to spend some time with the family over the holidays. As you can see, I'm not quite ready to put away the tree.

Velvet is the fabric of the day! Ever have the thought that come across your mind that whenever you put on velvet, you instantly look overdressed? Think again!

The fuzzy material is smooth and soft for comfort and everyday wear, yet it bounces off light making it look shiny and lux at different angles.

First post of the year I'd like to chillax a bit and go for the comfy cozy lounge wear. Take a look at my new found love - velvet dress.

Lounge wear is just one of many ways to wear velvet. Stay tune for the part 2 of this series on how I turn this dress from lounging to outing and more tips on how to style velvet all day everyday! Till' next time!

Many bloggers and fashion trend setter have been talking about this color for some time now. It is so hot right now and not the mention so festive for this holiday season. Yes! I am talking about the color - bold bright red.

I think everyone looks good in red. The gorgeous color is flirty, fun and playful. It is the median shade that provides you with the eye-catching color pop, yet won't cast weird shadows drawing attention to the unflattering parts of your body.

Today I chose to focus the magic of red on my footwear - the over-the-knee boots. They are surprisingly versatile and easy to match! I like to pair them with neutral colored clothing to keep them as the centerpiece of my outfit.

The bright red lip stain resonates with the boots to pull together a sophisticated look, balanced in the middle with a cute feminine plaid pleated skirt.

Bright red suites me best with my warm skin tone. Try out different shades of red to find the right one for you!

The holiday is dangerously closing in! How many parties are you invited to? It's time to gather some ideas on your Christmas/New Years party outfits!

The LBD is one of the most essential piece in most girls' closets (correct me if I'm wrong!). It is a simple yet elegant timeless piece that can be used to layer under so many different possibilities. Today, I threw in something extra to my outfit for a festive look for the holiday season.

1) Oversized blanket scarf
I love oversized blanket scarves for many reasons. They add warmth to the outfit without appearing bulky and heavy. They are oh-so-comfy! Who doesn't like being wrapped in a blanket all day during cold weather? You can roll these babies up and wrap them around your neck like an actual scarf. You can fold it into a triangle or a long rectangle and wrap them around your shoulders like a shawl or poncho. I tied a knot in the front to pull together a clean look. The bright red plaid print shows off the Christmas (and Canadian!) spirit and creates an instant festive vibe.

2) Faux Fur Scarf
Who says you can't wear two scarves at the same time? Faux fur scarves are perfect for the winter season because they scream coziness. It is a fun way to dress up your outfit with a faux fur scarf for a sophisticated look.

I had my hair half up for this day as supposed to my usual all down. Perhaps this will be another post in the future as to how I managed to set this hairstyle in 5 minute with just bobby pins and hairspray!

Brrr isn't it getting colder and colder these days? Time for the jackets and coats to come out! Recently I found this super cute ultra-lightweight puff jacket and I'm in love.

When I saw this jacket, I was drawn to the smart out-of-the-box designs:

1) The puffs are stitched in diamond shapes, which is different from the traditional horizontal puffs. I think this helps keep the down in place as they are in sectioned smaller spaces.

2) It doesn't have a hood! Without the big volume at the back of my neck, it opens up a lot more options and possibilities for styling. It can be worn just as is - an outerwear, or as a layer under a thicker jacket! Because it is ultra-thin, using it as a layering piece under another coat adds extra warmth to your outfit without looking super bulky.

Do you have a puffer in you closet too? How do you like to style it? Let me know in the comments below! Till next time!

Today I put together my outfit with three of my favorite items I most look forward to pulling out when the weather turns chilly!

1. Over-the-knee boots
Over-the-Knee boots can be worn through out Fall and Winter because of their length and coverage - with shorts, mini skirts for milder days and long tight jeans or leggings for colder days.

I find over-the-knee boots are very sexy and flirty. They are perfect for smaller petite girls like me because they create the visual illusion for longer legs and a taller frame.

2. Oversized blanket scarf
I threw on an oversized blanket scarf for extra warmth. It's an excellent choice to add comfort and style to your outfit.

3. Flannel shirt
Flannel shirts are very comfortable and warm they should be part of everyone's capsule wardrobe. My favorite Fall print is plaid. It is an universal print that looks great with everything! It has a relaxing vibe to it that I absolutely love. Moreover, flannel shirts are a great layering piece. Wear it unbuttoned with a plain tee underneath, a comfy sweater over top, throw on a puffy vest or parker for the colder days, the possibility is countless!
