Her Sassy Closet

I started falling in love with the color pink about two years ago and now I can't get enough of it! Blush pink appears to be the color of the season by far. Pink looks very different depending the tone and shade of the color you choose, from the soft pale blush to the powerful saturated hue. It is elegant, fun, feminine and youthful. It also suits well in different style, texture and material.

I chose a salmon pink jacket with a blush pink cotton top for a cute relaxed look. Did I mention they are SUPER soft, comfy and breathable too? This combo is my go to look when I have to run out with my little toddler. It is very easy to more around in as I chose a bit of a looser fit. I think salmon pink jacket gives the outfit a subtle pop of color without being totally dramatic. It also has a versatile cut and the gold detail on the zippers and buttons adds a little bit of glam to it. Pairing it with a blush pink cotton tee gives it almost a sporty kind of vibe to it and it's the component in which I love. I can switch off the jegging and boots with denim shorts or skirt with sneakers or sandals for the warmer weather.

Here's your do's and don'ts when wearing pink:

1. Choose a shade that compliments your skin tone
Not all pink look good on everybody. For example, people with darker skin tones would look great in hot pinks whereas these shades of pink can wash out those with paler skin. Get out there and try on different shades of pink and experiment on which ones are most flattering on you.

2. Play it safe
If you are just starting out with pinks, it's always safe to pair it with more neutral colors like white, nude and black. That makes the pink of your outfit the statement piece. For example, blush pink jeans with white top or hot pink blouse with black pants. If you choose to wear a pink dress, you can keep it from being too overwhelming by putting on a neutral jacket on top to tone it down. Complete your look with simple metallic accessories for to keep the look interesting.

3. Pop some colors
Be adventurous and experiment with colors! Pink looks absolutely fab with more colors than you think. Red with pink is pretty hot this season amongst many celebrities. Try a little out-of-the-box nautical look with pale pink and royal blue. These are ideas that make up a chic and stylist outfits.

4. Keep it simple
While pink is a very attractive color, don't go overboard. Choose only one piece of your outfit in pink. Most of the time, less is more. You can always try a pink accessory like a pair of shoes,  the face of a watch in pink to start! You want it to be edgy without being too overpowering.

How do you style your pinks?

P.S. When you find random balloons at the side walk, you gotta play with them!

Ahoy! Since I was little I've always had the love for the sea and ocean. I'm drawn to things that are related to it like sea-themed accessories and clothing, movies like The Little Mermaid, Pirates of the Caribbean and more recently Moana (you can tell I'm a Disney fan too!), I even decorated my son's room sea-themed!

So when I heard about the Ships to Shore King of the Sea festival I knew I had to check it out! The festival features Kaiwo Maru, a naval training vessel from Japan. According to the festival's official website, it is used to train cadets as well as ordinary citizens and give them knowledge about the ship and the sea. They also will learn to appreciate and respect good seamanship. Pretty cool huh? Tall ships are my favorite sail boats because they are always beautifully designed and just nice to look at on a sunny day.

I decided to go with the sea theme by styling a nautical look. The classic nautical color scheme is navy blue, white and bright red stripes. I decided to skip the red and just go with the navy blue and white combo. They are relatively neutral colors that work well with all body types. On its own, my navy blue top doesn't look too nautical. It has small square prints on it that almost look tribal. However, pairing it with a short sleeve blue stripes on white cardigan somehow made it work. The print actually adds an interesting twist to the outfit. I kept the look casual with a flared pin-striped denim skirt. To complete the outfit, I detailed with a gold anchor necklace. I love this piece because every time I wear it, I can't help but imagine myself sailing under blue sunny sky. It gives me the dreamy happy feeling! Anything with an anchor instantly makes it nautical and cute. So how do you make nautical work for you?

1. Wear the nautical color
The blue, white and red stripes, like I said, are the nautical basics. If you like it out of the box, you can try larger color blocks! With just the combination of the colors, the nautical hue would just emerge out of it.

2. Don the nautical symbols
Stripes are not the only thing that makes an outfit nautical. Nautical-themed prints too can have the same effect to bring out the theme. For example, anchor, life ring, ship's wheel, sea creatures, you name it - anything related to the sea!

3. The accessories
Complete your look with any nautical accessories. It doesn't even have to be an anchor - Try sea shells, sea horses, starfishes, ropes, sailor knots, etc. They are so much fun and easy to style and perfect for Spring and Summer. Minimalist? Try carrying the nautical spirit on the nails!

I went to the Abbotsford Tulip Festival last week. The festival situated at a tulip farm in Abbotsford just off of Highway 1. I love how the tulips are grown in rows. When you look at it from afar, It's like a sea of colors. It is absolutely beautiful! When I found this fabulous striped shirt at Winners, I thought it is a winner right away and was flawless for the occasion! It accentuates the waist with a tide front. It also has the off-the-shoulder detail. With the striped pattern it fits this season's trend perfectly! Since it was a farm visit, I wore a pair of cute rain boots by Hunter with quilt pattern. Was I glad I made that decision - It was quite muddy there! The excellent quality of the boots kept me dry and mud-free the entire trip. The quilt pattern was an eye-catcher. The boots doesn't look like rain boots at all because of the pattern and it made them very stylish in the wet (and muddy!) weather.

I noticed that I have a lot of striped clothes in my closet... BLUE stripes to be particular! I guess I just really love blue striped clothes. But let's be honest... Everyone loves a little bit of stripes. Right? Many people are reluctant to wear stripes, especially horizontal ones, because of the optical illusion of making one look bigger. I believe rather it is horizontal or vertical, if carefully picked and fitted to your body type, either one can look fabulous.

Horizontal stripes can be stylish if the right pattern is chosen. Try a piece with thin stripes starting just under the shoulders, leaving the shoulders area a solid colored background to make it more contemporary. Perhaps try a striped crop top! Keep the pattern minimal for a more clean look. Think out of the box and go for a wavy striped pattern for an edgy vibe. Avoid stretchy material that is too body hugging because the stripes exaggerates all the area where they lay. Some people like that look, but it doesn't seem very flattering to me.

Vertical stripes are a little easier to style. They have the optical illusion to make one appear taller. This is especially good for someone vertically challenged like me. However, be forewarned about vertical stripes, pick a cut that is not too body hugging. That is, unless you have zero body fat. With a tight fitted vertical striped top, it really shows off all your curves. I mean, ALL of your curves. That means your muffin top, it doesn't matter how small it is, will show because vertical stripes amplify those curves! Opt for a looser fit like mine to save yourself from drawing attention to your body for all the wrong reasons.

Want to style stripes with stripes? By all means! Stripes on stripes can be very trendy if done right. Trying separating your top and bottom stripes with a belt to add a bit of break in between to keep it interesting. If it is a striped dress? Tide a denim shirt around your waist to add depth to your outfit. Complete your look with a second striped piece as your outerwear.
