Her Sassy Closet

Vancouver weather has been weird this year!  It's been cold then warm then cold again... and those multiple wind and rain storms! Hopefully the weather will be nicer from now on!

You can tell spring is here in Vancouver when you see cherry blossoms blooming. It's a bit late this year because it has been cold, but it's finally here! It's truly beautiful to take a walk or have a picnic under a sea of pink. Cherry blossom is probably one of my favorite flower. If they sell them in flower shops, I'd probably buy them. I mean, nothing can compare to its delicacy and beauty (in my opinion!).

To go with the cherry blossom theme, I picked out a denim shirt with cherry blossom embroidery from GUESS. When I saw it online, it was love-at-first-sight. I feel like carrying spring on my shoulders with it on. It looks refreshing and absolutely stunning.

Denim shirts are very easy to work with and style. Here are a few ways I love to style my denim shirts:

1. Glam it up with cute flare or pencil skirts
Like how I wore it with my outfit! A skirt makes any outfit look instantly feminine and dressy. Flare skirts are very slimming. If you want to hide wider hips and thicker thighs, they are your best friends! Pencil skirt hugs the body and show off your curves and silhouette in a chic, sexy way. Remember to keep it simple if there is embroidery on your denim top like mine.

2. Make it more fun by playing around with bottoms of different textiles, colors and patterns
Tulle skirt would be a great choice on a date night. It is super sweet paired with a denim top. Throwing in a bling necklace or bracelet would add to the glam.

Bright colored bottoms pants or skirts make your outfit pop like that single red tulip amongst a yellow tulip field. Color blocks make easy-to-carry spring looks.
Bold prints like large floral and leopard work great with a denim top. Floral print is a classic and leopard print gives it a sexy twist.

3. Pair it with other denim
Many people seem hesitant to wear denim on denim. The trick is to make sure one piece is at least two shades lighter or darker than the other. This would give your outfit some depths.

4. Layer it
On a cold day, throw on a cozy sweater on top of the denim shirt. Keeps you warm and creates a stylish and relaxed layered look.

Rock the rock look with a leather jacket over the denim shirt. Complete the look with ripped jeans or skirt and biker boots.

There are so many options!  Comment on the commen section below and let me know how you wear your denim shirts!

Yesterday was a boring-turned-fun day! Since it was raining outside, my family and I decided to go to the Coquitlam Centre (CQC) for an indoor day.  It was an excellent choice -- turned out there was a Style Blogger Event happening!  It was part of their "Your Runway" mall promotion with the theme "spring capsule wardrobe".  The idea of spring capsule wardrobe is to de-clutter and condense the clothing in our closet.  There is a useful guideline to do that on the CQC fashion journalist website.  There, I met three lovely fashion bloggers, showcasing their spring capsule wardrobe selection from various stores in the mall.  It was so much fun getting to know them and getting tips on their ways of styling.

Sharday Engel

Sharday focuses on minimalism.  Neutral tones are the main color scheme in her spring capsule wardrobe.  Her style is very laid-back and comfortable.  It's perfect for mommies just like me and her!  Although her choices of clothing seem very causal, they don't lack chic.  She's added a splash of color in her collection to go with the spring theme with a light pink rain coat that is super cute.  I love the army green drapery trench she was wearing yesterday - gave it a bit of color to her classy basic outfit and kept her warm during the still-chilly-rainy Vancouver spring weather.  Check out her blog "Sharday Engel" here.

Bree Aylwin

Bree describes her style as "balancing practicality with fashion".  Her spring capsule wardrobe choices are also quite casual, pulling together different textiles and patterns like denim and stripes to create a fresh spring look.  I especially like the salmon pink pleated skirt she picked out.  It would be so cute to dress it up for a fancy nice dinner or dress it down for a casual weekend brunch.  She looked super chic yesterday in her striped shirt paired with classy leather jacket to create a cool contrast.  Visit her blog "The Urban Umbrella" for more styling tips here.

Krystin Tysire

Krystin likes to pair basics with a trendy piece to make up her outfit.  In her spring capsule wardrobe
definitely reflex that characteristic.  Her outfits appear to consist of basic simple garments with statement pieces of either cool patterns, bold colors or special textiles.  One of my favorites from her collection is a pair of pink joggers.  It's absolutely falls into the comfort yet stylist category!  Krystin looked relaxed yesterday with a patterned a-line dress topped with a colored bomber jacket.  The combo was low-key yet trendy!  See more on her blog "Girl in Betsey" here.

The CQC spring capsule wardrobe is perfect timing for spring cleaning.  For those who need to do some cleaning up (like me!), this is a good chance to get rid of clothes you don't need anymore!  What's even better is that CQC has another event partnered with H&M on Earth Day, April 22nd, to collect your "Go" pile of clothes.  You will receive H&M vouchers and Coquitlam Centre gift card for dropping off your old clothes!  Check out their website here for more details.

I did not intend to do a post on my outfit yesterday but then I thought, "why not?".  Simple is best, and it is the everyday me that you will see with how I look all the time.  Spring in Vancouver is still a little cold and rainy.  I paired a casual t-shirt with jeans and a handkerchief sweater.  This sweater is one of my favorite piece in my closet to keep me cozy in this temperature!  It's easy to style it with pants or skirts -- very versatile! I love love loooove the cat prints on the shirt (for those who know me well, I'm a total cat person lol...).  It is very comfortable outfit that I go back to time after time.  I sometimes like to pair this outfit with flats to make it more feet-friendly.  However I think it was a good choice I wore boots yesterday because just look at the photos I took with the ladies! The height difference despite the heels... Sigh... I suppose there are perks of being petite too :P Until next time!

Eco Fashion Week (EFW) ran from March 31 - April 2 this year.  Although I was only able to attend 2 of the 3 days, I was able to get a taste of each participant from the event at their booths along the runway stage EFW set up.  I'd like to share with you some of my favorites!

Bellantoni is a label that carries sustainable design in women's wear.  Their collection is very down to earth with comfortable cuts for everyday wear.  I really love the fact that all the fabric scraps are saved and used to make pet beds, which are then donated to local animal shelters.  Speaking of giving back to the community!  As an animal lover, that really speaks to me.

I've got to say Vancouver is a legging city.  You see people wearing leggings everywhere.  As a mommy myself, I love wearing leggings as they are versatile, comfortable and allow free movement when I chase my toddler around all day.  It can be styled with many different things - dressing up or down.  Rose Buddha provides just that.  Not even so, they do it the most sustainable way.  The material Rose Buddha uses to produce their leggings are made up of 83% recycled plastic bottles! Who would have known plastic bottles that are intoxicating our environment and packing our landfills can be used to make fabric?  How cool is that?

When I saw Rimpy Sahota's collection, I immediately fell in love.  It is so cute and feminine I can see myself living in it!  I really like her use of floral prints and soft-tone colors.  The cutting and designs of the garments are relaxed and soft enough for everyday wear but also sophisticated enough to make a woman feel confident in them.

Summer is just around the corner (-ish! Is it too early to make that wish?) and swimwear is an essential piece for the season.  Do I hear beaches and poolside parties? YES! The collection from Bikini Empire is a very good option!  Very sustainable as most of their pieces are reversible.  That's like two bikinis in one!  Their designs are super cute as well!

I decided to go more fun and daring this time going to the EFW.  A low-cut jumper with a rocking seamless bralette. Jumpers are the combination of chic and comfort.  However, if you are not careful, a jumper can make you appear bigger and shorter.  I chose one with a deep-V neckline in which makes my neck and body appear longer.  I also paired it with a bit of heels to elongate my legs.  These focal points on my outfit come together to made me look taller.  I used to find jumpers not very flattering on my petite curvy body, that is, until I learned to just embrace and love my body and dress accordingly.  We shall talk about how to dress petite curvy body in my future posts!

That sums up my awesome weekend submerged in the fashion world! Let me know what you think in the comments below! Till' next time :)
