Her Sassy Closet

Recently embroidery is popping up everywhere, in stores, on runways, and online as seen on fashion bloggers and influencer. It is making a comeback, a glamorous one! It is one of the trends that I really enjoy and wondered why it ever went away. To some people, embroidery reminds them of grandma's wardrobe. However with new modern twists, it has the ability to create many effortless fresh Spring appearance!

The possibility of embroidery is endless. There are many designs such as animals, floral prints or patterned. Embroidery looks great anywhere on the an outfit. Here's what I think about it!

1. The top
The easiest way to style embroidery is on a top. Even just a simple detail like a floral patch across the front is already enough to add a refreshing element to the whole outfit. Don't be fooled by its simplicity. The magic of embroidery is that it stands out on its own because of the bright colored stitching. It works for all kinds of tops - cotton, denim, long, cropped, plain, patterned, etc. The possibility is endless!

I chose today a long striped shirt with a floral detail on one side of the bodice. Although the patch is quite large, the length of the shirt makes it look clean and modern. I love this type of cut on a shirt! Not only I can wear it as just a top, I can also wear it as a shirt dress because it is long enough!

You can always dress up or down a shirt dress. Leave it loose like me and pair it with leggings or tight jeans and sneakers for a cute and casual look for a weekend brunch. Show your classy and trend character by glamming it up with a thick corset belt and pumps.

2. The bottom
Embroidery on your bottoms goes a long way. Whether its on denim jeans, cotton skirts, dress pants, a little embroidery boosts personality to your outfit. It draws attention to your lower body, so choose something body-hugging like pencil skirts or slim-cut jeans to stay trendy.

3. The outerwear
Same with the above with adding detail on your outfit. Embroidery is starting to make its appearance on outerwear such as denim jackets, coats and the now-trending bomber jackets. It adds to your outfit without disturbing the rest of your look. Depends on what the print is of your embroidery on your outerwear, floral or animal print can make you look feminine, whereas patterns bring in the tribal vibe.

4. The accessories
Embroidery doesn't necessarily have to be on clothing. In fact, many designers now bring the trend into accessories. You can find stitched work on jewelries and bags and they look super cute! Keep your outfit neutral and relatively plain to make your embroidered accessories stand out.

You can see how I styled a denim embroidered shirt on my older post here.

This past weekend I went to a craft fair at the PNE forum called Make it Vancouver hosted by Make it! The Handmade Revolution. There were many many fun handmade goodies such as clothing, accessories, home decorations, ceramics & pottery, food & drinks, and body care.

One of my favorite makies is by Lennard Taylor Design Studio Inc. Its founder and designer Lennard Taylor was there himself! He showed me how he paints his design onto his garments. He had a line of small paint cans at his booth for his masterpieces that he created on the spot! Photos can't do justice for Lennard's collection. The cutting and fit of his pieces are fantastic.

Another one of my favs was Devi Arts Collective. One of the artists of the company Bayoush Mengesha showcased some of her handmade jewelries there. They are simple and look oh-so-cute!

Lovable plush from CASE Boutique! They said these cuties are made to make people happy. They sure made me giggly!

Beautiful paper-cut giant floral decoration by Blooms and Paper's that is perfect for occasions, or make a statement at home!

Make a statement with vintage and industrial inspired lamps by East Van Light at home, at the office, and anywhere you can think of!

There were just so many other things that I love there! Check out the list of makies on the Make it Vancouver website for the list of vendors that were there! I had a lot of fun and found some ideas for DIYs too! Did you get a chance to check it out? Let me know what you think on the comments down below! Till next time!

The weather is so nice out today it's just hard to stay indoors! I went to the PNE Forum to check out the Make It Vancouver. Stay tune for my next post about my experience there and my favorite vendors!

I found this cute simple sweater dress at the Frank + Oak warehouse sale this past weekend for a mere $25! What a steal! Although the women collection from Frank + Oak is a little limited, the quality is fantastic. A sweater dress is perfect for Spring weather with mild temperature and cool breeze. Here are some tips of what I think you can try to  style a sweater dress this season:

1. Lighten up the footwear
Because a sweater dress can be thick and chunky, you don't want to add more weight to your outfit by wearing tall boots or long socks during Spring. Opt for lighter and more airy shoes to avoid Wintery appearance. Peep-toe booties or mules are marvelous matches to relieve the heaviness from the sweater dress.

2. Exaggerate the accessories
A statement necklace or bracelet (pick one!) works very well with a simple sweater dress to supplement the simplicity with a bit of glam.

Large bags like totes or stylish backpacks are great accessories to pair with a sweater dress too!

3. Cinch the waist
Sweater dresses can be baggy and shapeless - solve that problem by wearing a skinny or statement belt. A skinny belt gives you shows off the small of your waist without taking away from your dress; a statement belt, like a statement necklace, adds sophistication to your outfit.

Try the unconventional way and tie a plaid shirt around your waist on top of your sweater dress. It's a detail that pumps up your outfit with character.

For those who are interested in my sweater dress, the Frank + Oak Sample sale is still happening until this Sunday, April 23! Check it out if you are interested. Hint hint: there's a Groupon for Frank + Oak online purchases too!

Over-the-knee socks are one of my favorite accessories. They are comfortable and warm and trendy all at the same time. Over-the-knee socks are generally associated with Fall and Winter. I'd really like to extend that into Spring. Who says over-the-knee socks are only for Fall and Winter?

Spring is here and I'd really like to pull out the skirts and shorts! However, although the weather is slowly getting warmer, the chill in the morning and evening can still be a killer. This is when the over-the-knee socks come in handy. They cover up those cold shivery legs and yet show off a bit of skin for a hint of sexiness without damaging your look. There are thinner versions of over-the-knee socks for warmer weather like the ones I have. Here's what to look out for when choosing over-the-knee socks!

1. Mind the color
Because it is spring time, you can't go wrong choosing neutral colors such as light grey or pink. If your outfit is already dark in color, bringing in more dark color to your socks would make your look appear Autumny/Wintery. If you like dark over-the-knee socks, balance them with bright colored tops and bottoms like a white blouse or bright red skirt to create contrast.

Instead of using your tops and bottoms as your colored piece, you can also try adding the pop of color with your over-the-knee socks. Bright color over-the-knee socks like yellow can elevate your Spring look and draw eyes to your legs to make them appear longer.

2. Nothing over the knee other than the socks
Over-the-knee boots with over-the-knee socks are a great combo, when it is Autumn or Winter! Spring time calls for something more upbeat and lively. Only wear boots just below the knees at the highest.

Give ankle boots or short booties a shot! They are light-weight and comfortable. The booties I chose add a hint of red with gold zippers and trimmings to make my outfit more contemporary.

Laced up boots or combat boots toughen your outfit and give it a punk rock vibe.

Add feminine element with Mary-Jane or T-strap shoes! Pair them with over-the-knee socks and a classic A-line dress for a dainty sweet impression.

3. Keep your outfit simple and avoid bulkiness
Otherwise, again, it would look Autumny/Wintery.  An oversized sweater works well with over-the-knee socks for a relaxed cool look. You can leave it at that, but my sweater isn't quite long enough so I decided to wear a denim skirt underneath for some length.

4. Metallic Accessories

Metallic accents adds glam and makes your look more cheerful. Instead of accessories like necklaces and bracelets, I threw in this element with a straw bag. Not only it gives people the impression for warm weathers, the gold rims and strap come together to create a carefree feeling. In this case, it "dress down" my outfit by making it more Spring-like.

Tell me about your ideas to style over-the-knee socks in Spring in the comments down below! Till next time! :)

Happy Easter everybody! Rather you are having a mini get-away, a stay-cation, or working, I hope everyone is having a great long weekend so far. The weather turned out to be decent!

Bomber jackets traditionally give an athletic and masculine vibe. They are super comfy and can be worn all year round. They also give your outfit an instant pop of attitude. The bombers on this spring season's catwalks are taking a turn towards a more feminine look. Designers have achieved that by using a larger range of colors like metallic and pink, upscale fabric like silk, and detailed designs like embroidery and prints. The right bomber jacket can add to your outfit as a layering piece and can also look just as amazing as just an outerwear. It's perfect for the Spring transitional weather to save you from stumbling to stay comfortable. The one I chose with my outfit today is a bit more of a classic - a varsity bomber.  I feel that it gives me a young sweet look and it's a style that never goes outdated! Here are some outfit examples I think look great completing with bomber jackets:

1. Keep it casual
As how I styled my bomber today, I paired it with a plain cami, jeans and cowboy boots - a very suitable outfit for a walk by the seawall! A plain or graphic tee would have looked great too. When it gets a little chilly, layer a sweater on top of your tee under the bomber and you've got yourself covered. Wrap a plaid shirt around your waist as another layer for more depth to your outfit.

For warmer days, style it with a crop top, shorts and sneakers (maybe even a baseball cap!) to make it more flirty and fun.

Don't feel like pants? Bring out the girl inside you by layering your bomber with a t-shirt dress. Keep it casual with sneakers of course.

Pairing a bomber with a collared shirt and pleated skirt gives a youthful and fun look. You can always change it up by replacing the collared shirt with a polo to make it more casual! Play with the fabric and wear a jean or leather pleated skirts for a more dramatic look.

2. Dress down your fancy outfit
On a night out? Sometimes a fancy bodycon dress with devil heels can be a bit much, especially if you start your day early in the afternoon. A nice silky bomber jacket can dress it down until your big date and also keep you looking trendy throughout the entire day.

If you are a girly girl, you can choose a more feminine color for your bomber like blush pink.

Let me know how you style your bomber in the comments below! Till next time :)
