Her Sassy Closet

If there is any fashion-forward trend you would like to try, I recommend giving the statement sleeves a shot. May it be flounce, ruffle, bishop, elongated, embellished, belled sleeves, there is so much variety! Whatever your preference is, these fabulous sleeves would be an eye-catcher wherever you go.

Some might think that statement sleeves aren't the best to wear in the summer as the weather is too hot. Vancouver weather changes often however, I actually found it just right when I wore this dress to my photo shoot (Again, I'm a tropical animal!). I was kept warm in my sleeves on the upper arm and the extra-wide flare sleeves made of structured material allowed the breeze to come through and thus cooling my forearms.

Here are my opinion on do's and don'ts when styling large bell sleeves:

1. Do adopt to streamline
Because statement sleeves are already very huge and dramatic, you wouldn't want to make your outfit any busier. Pair your giant sleeves with fitted bottoms like tight jeans or pencil skirts to balance out the bulk on your outfit from the sleeves.

2. Do show off the waistline
Defining your waist helps reduce the overall bulkiness of your outfit and create a slim and tall look. Moreover, it would also exaggerate your sleeves, making it stand out even more.

Opt for a cropped statement sleeved top with a pencil skirt or skinny jeans to expose your waist; or try statement sleeve dress with a belt. Don't be shy with having some fun with the belt! I love this belt of mine that is made of long ruffles that make it look almost like a mini skirt. It corresponds with my bell sleeves perfectly. Keep in mind that if you like to pair a statement belt like mine with your bell sleeved top or dress, make it short and small enough that it doesn't take away from the sleeves. Not feeling adventurous? You would never go wrong with just a simple thin belt.

3. Don't over accessorize
As stated in my last point, don't over do the accessories, including the belt. I recommend small and dainty jewelries and keep the attention to your sleeves.

4. Don't underestimate your beauty
This is the most important point of all! Make sure you feel confident in what you are wearing. Best thing about fashion is that it's entirely up to you. It's all about having fun. Just remember, you are beautiful :)

Today's photo shoot was a fun date with my good friends who graduated with me in nursing school - Rina and Katrina. She is a blogger as well! She is so talented and stylish. Be sure to check out her blog And She Dressed!

What do you think about the bell sleeve trend and the way I styled mine? Leave me a shout in the comment below! Till next time!

For background information, the length of a midi skirt is half way between your knees and ankle. Some might find the length a bit challenging to wear without it looking like something an old school counsellor would approve of. You need to rid the mindset that it is matronly when you want to get on this midi trend wagon.  With the hem being at the smallest part of your body, it actually gives you a taller and slimmer visual illusion! As a petite girl, this is something I always look for when shopping for clothes. Though that being said, sometimes midi skirts and dresses look more like maxi's on me. So how would you pull it off you say? Here's what I think:

1. Choose the right length
As a petite girl, as I stated earlier, midi skirts and dresses can look longer on us than others. Choosing the correct length that flatters us is important to achieve that extra visual boost of height. Ideally, pick a length that is just above the mid-calf. With the hem above the biggest part of your calf, it will make you appear a little slimmer. Alternatively, choose something that ends just below the mid-calf for the same reason. The skirt I wore for this post, I chose the latter.

2. Cinch the waist
Accentuating your waist is the basics of elongating your legs and body. If you decide to select a top that has a special hemline like mine that you cannot tug in, pick one that is more fitted so your waistline shows. Rather you are going for the more classy formal look or rocking the hip street style, define your waist with a belt with the top tugged in or opt for a cropped top.

3. Look for details
Explore different prints and colors, opt for slits, button details, etc. These details will make the outfit playful. Patterns like vertical stripes and linear buttons also aides in the vertical visual to make you appear taller.

4. Play with the shoes
Donning the heels is another height boosting basic. While they definitely look great with a midi for a short girl, I don't reject the idea of pairing a midi with a cool pair of sneakers. However, make sure to choose the shorter length of midi that falls just above the mid-calf to lengthen your legs. Sneakers with midi is very popular among the Asians. Rock the Japanese doll street style with that combo!

What do you think of my ideas? I hope this post gives more confidence to those petites like me to give this awesome trend a try! I'd love to see how you are styling your midis. Let me know in the comments below. Till next time!

The wedding season has started! Have you had a chance the celebrate the joy of love yet this year? Summer time is perfect for wedding when the sun beams beautiful warm rays. How are you showing off your sun-kissed skin for special occasions this season?

I'm going to talk about this post one of the hottest look this season - the off-shoulders. You can find it in tops and dresses. The boho vibe and flattering cut makes it very easy to style and understandably popular. With the right design, cut and fabric, off-the-shoulders can make a great appearance at special occasion wear like weddings. I wore an off-shoulder body con dress to my good friend's wedding as you see in the photos! Here's how I think one should choose an off-the-shoulders piece:

1. The Color
Try bright colors for the summer. The pop of color draws attention to your outfit making it fun and cheerful to look at. Tone down by choosing darker colors like navy blue and black for a more elegant look. Opt for softer colors like white and steal the show looking young and fresh. For this post I chose a pale pink dress. It is very feminine and romantic. Perfect for the celebration the love of the newly wedded.

2. The sleeves
Many girls don't like sleeveless tops and dresses because they expose the arms that they want to hide. An off-the-shoulder tops with bell sleeves or bubble sleeves provide extra coverage needed. It makes you look as cool as you feel! Try them with eyelet or embroidery detail for a more feminine touch! For a more mature and elegant look, choose one with a more fitted bodice and sleeves. Off-shoulder with long sleeved dress is a cute option for an nice evening out like a wedding banquet.

3. The neckline
The most basic off-the-shoulder neckline is the elastic hem. It's more suitable for casual occasions. It is too laid back for a full on wedding. Perhaps it is better to be worn to a brunch or lunch reception.

Fitted neckline is made for the garment to lay flat on your chest. The fabric is generally more rigid and dressy. There are many designs with fitted neckline too, such as straight scoop, and sweetheart. This type of neckline is more classy and are better for more formal occasions.

Choose one that compliments your body type. My dress has large riffles across the straight neckline and sleeves. The amount of coverage was perfect for me and very flattering.

4. The fabric
Cotton material calls for casual comfortable all-day wear. A cotton off-shoulder dress would be very suitable both going in to the city or parks. Cinch your waist with a thin belt for a more defined look. Leave it loose for a cute French doll look. Flowy saffron is great for a relaxing brunch date. For special occasions, choose heavier fabric that has more structure. My dress is made of scuba fabric. The thickness holds the shape of the ruffles at the neckline and sleeves. The stretchy fabric also hugs the body nicely showing off some curves. It screams confidence and sexiness.

5. The Accessories
Because the off-shoulder detail is already a statement on its own, I wouldn't go too crazy on the jewelries. A simple necklace with a dainty pendent would do the trick. Did you notice? I chose to use the jewelries I brought with me to my Walt Disney World trip (Here, here and here)! The small gold chain with a little emerald stone compliments my pink dress. It adds glam without taking attention from the dress. For evening wear, just change into a choker with slightly bigger gemstones for more bling!

I had the pleasure to join one of my best friends for her special bachelorette a few days ago and her dreamy wedding just yesterday! I will share with you my outfit on her wedding day on a separate post so stay tuned! We had to classic high-tea, spa and dinner combo. Girly date calls for a girly outfit! I made my statement that day with a sheer top.

Sheer, like tulle, mesh or lace, is very unique. Because it is see-through, it shows off your silhouette and skin, yet giving you a little security that you are still "covered". The material creates a feminine, sexy, romantic feel to the outfit. Let me share with you 3 simple steps how I'd wear this trend for the season:

1. Decide on how much skin you want to show
Choose the amount of skin you are comfortable in showing when purchasing your sheer piece.

Sheer full piece appears to be popping out everywhere in today's fashion, from tops to skirts to dresses. Pick one with sheer accents, patches or panels if you feel intimidated with the full transparency. For example, the top I wore in today's post the sheer lies only on the shoulders and sleeves. It is long sleeved so I rolled it up for a more springy/summery look. It is elegant and classy, yet not lacking the sexy wild side.

2. Go Subtle or Bold
With full sheer tops, for those who are more daring, simply wear a bralette or bandeau underneath! It is a very sexy, chic way to show off some skin without being over the top. For a statement bold look, pair something contrasting with your sheer and let it show through. A bright colored bralette with a black sheer top would be a good example. Since we are in Summer, why not wear your colorful bathing suit underneath? Bring on your creative side! Having a loose sheer over a fitted dress would be a cute summer combo too!

A full sheer dress, on the other hand, is a surprisingly versatile layering piece. An under dress, solid color or printed, beneath it would make it a classic dress. Try it with a tank or bralette paired with skinny jeans for a fun, boho vibe. Sheer skirts are pretty similar idea as dresses. Try a graphic crop top and skinny jeans or leggings underneath for a punk, edgy look.

If you are more conservative, try a tank top or cropped top instead for more coverage. In fact, if you want to slowly dip into the crop top trend, a sheer piece over top would keep you from fully bell Show! Throw on a thin cardigan or blazer for a more sophisticated look! For a tamed subtle effect, match your sheer with an under piece of the same color. They blend together to make it more unified.

Opt for prints on your sheer. Prints and patterns make sheer harder to see through; the busier it is, the more so. Because of that exact reason, you don't have to worry too much of what to wear beneath.

Not too fond of sheer on top? Try it as an under layer instead! Draw attention with sheer under a structured skirt with the peek-a-boo effect. Make sure whatever on top is thick enough to hide the unpleasant bulges and bumps!

3. Have fun with the accessories
Accessories on my fashion dictionary doesn't necessarily mean jewelries.

Embroidery and embellishments creates visual distractions, making the illusion of more coverage. Try them out if you feel a bit over-exposed with plain sheer! The embroidery on my sheer top serves that purpose well. The large size and pop of color also makes it a statement for my outfit. Embroidery pop against sheer. It is a fun, chic and flirty way to emphasize the detail and show off your girly side.

As for jewelries, instead of delicate ones, opt for something more chunky to add character to your outfit! Unless if your sheer piece is already busy with embellishments or prints, then you go for the more dainty ones to balance it out.

How do you style your sheer? Share with me in the comments below. Till next time! Cheers to the beautiful bride and newly-wed couple!

On Day 5 of our trip, we were back at Walt Disney World, and we only had half a day until our flight back home. We decided to spend the day at the more relaxing, slower-paced park - Epcot.

Epcot is a showcase of the present and future world in which they have exhibitions for different countries and cultures. There are many meet and greet Disney characters representing the country they are from. Because we were short on time, we focused on Norway and France, the two place the hubbie and I would really love to visit next! We met Anna and Elsa at Norway where we had a hilarious time discussing about love. They were so cute. We didn't get a chance to meet Belle in France as we missed her performance time, but we did have a blast ordering so much food from the French bakery there! We had quite a bit of snacks left from our meal plans we wanted to use it all up. The food all looked so good it was hard to decide what to get! We ended up having pretty much all sweet stuff for lunch and saved our sandwiches for just before the flight at the airport.

The highlight of our day was us changing up the pins we wore. During our last few days, I've been wearing the "First Visit" pin from the resort. I've been getting my welcome's and have-fun's from various Disney staff around the parks. This day, I asked for a "Happily ever after" pin. It's very interesting how the interactions changed with just a pin! We got a lot more people (from other visitors too!) coming to congratulate us! *lol* I guess we were celebrating our early anniversary!

I dressed the day in a one-piece t-shirt dress. Although half-day involved less walking, comfort was still key for I wore it on the flight home as well. I wrapped my denim shirt around my waist again as an extra layer for cooler temperatures in buildings and on the flight. Same gold necklace and bangles for the bling.

T-shirt dresses are great on-the-go because they are a very minimal piece. Although they are comfortable and breathable for all day wear, they can look boring with just a pair of sandals. You can try spicing it up with a denim shirt tided around the waist like I did. You can also try laying it with a military vest or cropped denim jacket for a cute relaxed look. Oversized cardigans and flannels atop the t-shirt dress for travellers going to cooler destinations. Sneakers and caps are also an excellent choice to pair with t-shirt dresses for a sporty, active vibe. Thinking of a Boho look for more sunny, tropical destinations? Opt for a large floppy hat with a long statement necklace!

This is the last of the Walt Disney World/Universal Orlando trip series! *Sigh* Still in vacay mode! I'll be back on my regular stuff for the next post. Stay tune! Hint hint! It's wedding seasons! Till next time!

Day 4 of our trip we went for a side trip to Universal Orlando Resort. We were short on time so we only spent one day here and only visiting the Harry Potter Attractions - Just in time for the books' 20th Anniversary!

We started the day at Universal's Island of Adventure where the Hogward's castle and Hogsmeade village is located. As we walked through the arch into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, it was like stepping into another world. The set and backdrops are very similar to those in the movies. It was very cute how there are moving photos on random bulletin boards around the park and in the castle. It's really too bad they didn't incorporate the moving stairs in the castle. I thought it would have been a very cool addition to make it appear even more enchanted than it already is. Lack of space I suppose! I found it a bit odd that the rooftops of Hogsmeade are covered in snow. Although I understand that is how it's like when Harry visits the village in the series, the weather was so warm and made the snow seemed a little out of place. Regardless, I finally got to try the infamous butter beer! A bit too sweet to my liking but hey! I guess that's how the wizards and witches like it.

The Ollivanders was an entertaining experience where there was a small show of how to pick a wand, just like Harry did when he first stepped into the wizarding world. It then leads into the gift shop where you can actually purchase wands and other merchandises. I couldn't resist the temptation. I bought a wand - an interactive one. There are many spots around Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley where you can use these wands to "cast magic". You can make things move, silence them, turning lights on and off, etc. It was so much fun! I got to practice all my swish and flick there.

When we finished, we took the Hogwards Express to Universal Studios Florida, another park of the resort where Diagon Alley is. During the ride, we could look out the "window" for the view of the British countryside and the Hogwards castle moving away from us. Harry, Hermione and Ron's shadows lingered just outside our cabin door interacting with one another. It was a short but interesting ride!

Once we get off our train, we were at Diagon Alley. We stopped by Leaky Cauldron had our wizards' and witches' lunch. I had to try the pumpkin juice and enjoy the enchanted environment! There are many gift shops at Diagon Alley. We spent most of our time playing with our wands at the designated magic casting spots.

For a day full of magic, I picked a hand-dyed shirt with colors changing from white to pink to purple. I've always thought hand-dying technique is like magic. You turn a plain ordinary shirt into something beautiful. It's an art on its own. I originally planned to wear this shirt with the denim skirt from the last post, but since the outfit changes, I chose to pair it with a cotton flare skirt instead. The super soft material of both pieces made them very comfortable for the day-long wear. Sandals were my footwear as my sneakers got wet from a water ride the day before and didn't dry in time. They were very suitable for the hot weather. There was less walking so my feet were still good at the end of the day! Finishing the look again with my gold chain emerald stone necklace and bangles for the minimal but chic glam.

We wished we had more time to explore the rest of Universal Orlando resort but one day was all we have. We will definitely allocate more time here for our next visit! Do you think my outfit fit the Harry Potter theme? Have you been to Universal Orlando Resort? Share your experience with me in the comments below! Next up, last of the series - back to Walt Disney World - Epcot! *sad face*
